Carrie I. Coston

Carrie Isabelle Coston, 80, departed this life on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in the comfort of her home. She was born December 23, 1936 to the late Ellen Coston Copeland and Raymond Goodwin. She attended the Isle of Wight Training School and was retired from Gwaltney of Smithfield in transportation payroll department. Carrie was very active in the New Bethany Christian Church, Smithfield, and the usher's ministry. She also was an avid member of the Dinette Social & Savings Club. She never met anyone that she couldn't be friendly to. Her motto was "everyone is family, you're never a guest in my home". She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Emma Parker, George L. Goodwin and James Goodwin. Survivors include her only daughter, Barbara Clarke of Windsor, VA; three sons, Chauncey and Ricky Coston Sr. both of Smithfield, VA and Karl R. Coston of New Jersey; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; one brother, Joe Coston (Merilyn) of Portsmouth; loving cousins and other family that she loved and that adored her. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will be held Friday April 7, 2017 from 4-7PM at the chapel.
