Antoni Thomas

On Sunday, May 14, 2023, our beloved Antoni Lamarr Thomas transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly mansion. He was born on October 2, 1976, to Johnny Earl Thomas and Yvonne Thomas at Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. Antoni was a student of Churchland Primary through High School, a member of ROTC and graduated in 1996. He enlisted in the Army in 1997 and was stationed at Fort Haachuca, Arizona where he was deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan (twice) and was discharged in 2002.

In Portsmouth, Virginia, he was an apprentice with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and employed as a Marine Mechanic Machinist for 15 years. Recently, he was enrolled and taking courses at DeVry University for Project Management.

He was sociable and popular with his friends, family, co-workers and even strangers. His laughter was infectious and recognizable in a crowd of any size. He loved cooking and thought of himself as a “Chef.” He loved supporting his favorite NFL team, the San Francisco 49ers, with hopes of a championship coming in the near future, listening to music, including Nas and the Wu-Tang Clan, cooking on the grill, making delicious smoothies and his famous macaroni ‘n’ cheese, travelling, playing card games and dominoes, joking and having fun with his family, and much more. Antoni was affectionally known to family and friends as “Bugg” or “The Bugger.”

He was predeceased by in-laws Luther Tynes Jr. and Mollie Hill Tynes and brother in-law Dimitri L. Tynes.ll

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, daughter, step son, brothers, and extended family.

Mr. Antoni  Thomas, 46, transitioned from this life on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at his home in Smithfield, Virginia.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will take place Friday, May 19, 2023 from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel.  Interment at Albert G. Horton, Jr., Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.
