Anthony B. Graham

Mr. Anthony Bernard Graham, affectionately known as “Mr. G” transitioned on Sunday, July 24, 2022, from Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation Center. He was born on October 26, 1947, to Mary Wilder in Charleston, SC. He later relocated to New York City. He was the oldest of six children. He was preceded in death by his brother Willie Graham and his mother Mary Wilder. He was educated in the New York City School System. While in New York he was employed by J. Parson Moving Company and Atlas Local and Long-Distance Hauling Company for many years. After relocating to Virginia, he became employed by Richmond Cold Storage in Smithfield, VA in 1988 as a construction worker to build the facility. After construction was completed, he became a forklift driver at the facility. He retired from Richmond Cold Storage after 22 years of dedicated service as his health began to decline. Anthony married Earnestine Newby on August 21, 1981. To this union, three children were born. Mr. G was a hard worker. He was an avid cook and baker that loved to feed family, friends, and the community. He loved making barbeque sauces, macaroni salad, baking his famous bread pudding and cleaning and detailing cars. He loved watching old Western movies as well. Mr. G was very quiet natured but he could be mischievous at times causing many moments of laughter with family and friends. He would also spend time with his grandchildren. Mr. G was a watch care member of Divine Touch A.F.C.O.G. in Rushmere, VA. He attended several church services and helped wherever he could. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Earnestine Graham, Surry, VA; his son, Anthony Newby, Surry, VA; two daughters: Akeyla Stringfield (Anthony), Surry, VA; Shenee Graham, Williamsburg, VA. Three granddaughters: Heavenly Newby, Neytiri Newby and Nyema Graham. One grandson, Nizari Cypress and one great-granddaughter Milayah. His siblings: Betty Bankhead, New York; Mary Rivers (Harry), New York; Cynthia Wilder, Petersburg, VA; and Frances Severin, New York. Devoted family friends: Rodnell Blount Sr. and Paula Blount, Surry, VA. Two loving godchildren: Rodnell Blount Jr. and Helena Blount. A host of relatives, cousins, nieces, nephews, church family and friends. His spirit of service, avid cooking skills and mischievous ways will continue to influence our lives. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm Friday, July 29, 2022 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will take place Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 3-6pm Also at Shivers Funeral Chapel.
