My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. John 10:27-28 Annie Vernice Poulson was born on January 16, 1937 to the late Willie and Maebelle Thomas. After a long illness, on August 28, 2017, she took God's hand to receive her well-deserved reward. She was known best as Vernice to her family and grew up and was educated in the Hobson, Sandy Bottom section of Suffolk, Virginia. Later as an adult she moved to Salisbury, Maryland and lived there with her husband Charlie W. Poulson Sr. until she returned to Portsmouth, Virginia after his death in 2008. Vernice held many jobs while in the Hobson area and touched the lives of many. She has been credited to giving foster love and care to more than 60 young people and was a care giver for many. Along with her many years of domestic work, care giving to many and other employment ventures she held, she never forgot her family. She loved and dedicated herself to each and everyone and vowed to keep family together. She was a life time DEDICATED member of Mount Lebanon Church of God In Christ (COGIC) as an officer on the Usher Board. After moving to Salisbury, Maryland she became a member of the Powerhouse COGIC and was very faithful in that membership. There she worked as a Missionary, member of the Pastor's Aide, Usher, and assisted with Youth Ministry. Upon her return to Portsmouth, she reclaimed her membership at Mt Lebanon and sat in her favorite seat on her favorite row until she could no longer attend. When it came to the work of the Lord she was never found with idle hands. She was truly a "willing worker" - always available for work in the Kingdom. Her love was for people but her heart belonged to God. Vernice was preceded in death by her parents; Willie and Maebelle Thomas, sister; Mae Anna Crocker, and her husband; Charlie W. Poulson Sr. She leaves to cherish her memories, sisters; Ellen Thomas and Estelle Thomas (Herbert), daughters; Peggy Goodwin and Connie Scott-Green (Lewis), son; Charlie Poulson Jr. (Jewel), grand-daughters; Concear (CeCe) Scott and Montirey (Montie) Johnson, grand-sons; Antonio (AD) Scott and Brandon (BJ) Johnson, great grandsons; Brian Williams (BJ) and Kamryn Worsley (Kam) as well as a very devoted friend and Godly Sister; Karmen Johnson. Her memory also lingers with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A Wake service will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 4-7pm at the Chapel.
