Annie B. Diggs

Annie Bell Birchette Diggs 87, transitioned from this life Friday, October 6, 2023 at her residence.

Annie was born on January 6, 1936 to the late Lewis and Corrine Birchette.  She was married to the late  Herbert L.  Diggs, Sr. for 67 years until his passing.  They were blessed with three children from their union. She attended Isle of Wight Training School and Paul D. Camp Community College. Her first job was at the FFA Camp at Morgarts Beach, Smithfield, VA. It was there that she learned and became famous for all types of  bread making and pastries.  Later on, she was employed as a cafeteria Manager at Hardy Elementary School for 26 years. She was gifted at dress making and made all her daughters school clothes.  She taught her daughters  how to sew, cook  and crochet. She enjoyed traveling and crafting with the Nike Park Seniors.

Annie  obeyed the gospel and was baptized into Christ  and was a faithful member of the  church of Christ (Central)  Smithfield, VA.

Annie leaves to cherish her memory her son, Herbert L.  Diggs, Jr.  (Winifred) Smithfield, VA,  daughters; Deborah  Watson (Michael), Surry, VA , Annie Marie Parker (George, Sr.) Windsor, VA and Sandra Cobbs, Newport News, VA, nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren  and 1 great great grandchild, 3 brothers in law Curtis Diggs and John Diggs, Smithfield, VA and Lewis Blount, Surry, VA two sisters in law, Mary Diggs, Smithfield, VA and Eloise Covington, Baltimore, MD and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

We will miss her gentle, kind and loving personality.

On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, a viewing will be held from 3-6p.m. at Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life will take place at 12p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Central Church of Christ, Smithfield, VA. Interment will occur immediately following the service at the Baptist Cemetery. Please keep the Diggs and Birchette family in your thoughts and prayers.
