The Life and Legacy of "Dee Dee"

To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted; A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to breakdown, And a time to buildup; A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance.

Alma Delawrence Thomas was born on October 17, 1946 and entered into eternal life on Friday, November 4, 2022 at his residence. He was the son of the late Alma ff. and Joseph C. Thomas Sr. Preceding him in death was his wife Janice G. Wilson; two sons Marcus Thomas and Craig Davis; two sisters Sirley Tynes and Terry Arrington; and six brothers Leon, Joseph yr., Edwin, Howard., Andrew and Arthur Thomas.

Alma received his formal education in Isle of Wight County Public Schools. He worked at Newport News Shipbuilding for 31 years until his health failed. "Dee Dee" as he was well Own as loved fishing, bowling, and was very skilled with his hands. He had a vast sense of humor as well as wisdom and knowledge. DeeDee was also very caring, a giving person, and most importantly he loved his family.

Left to cherish his memory are six daughters Alma M. Thomas, Sherelle D. Thomas, Monica (Bailey (Wade), and Lisa Gwaltney all of Newport News, Virginia, Monique Gwaltney of Smithfield, Virginia and Sherelle Robinson of Newark, New Jersey; four sons, Lawrence J., Shanta S., and Timothy Thomas (Teresa) and Pete Davis all of Newport News, Virginia; three sisters Sharon Ruffin (Tony) of Suffolk Virginia, Peggy Hamlin (Alvin) of Smithfield Virginia and Harriet Tatum of (Portsmouth, Virginia; one brother Danny Thomas of Smithfield, Virginia; 22 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Mount Tabor COGIC, Smithfield. Viewing will take place on Friday, November 11, 2022 from 3-6pm at the chapel. Please keep the Thomas family in your prayers.
